Upper Jaw Tooth-Up Front & Deadly Anterior Position. 2.867 INCHES 1.5 OZ. ROOT HAS (2) SPOTS OF IMPERFECTION. Megalodon is an extinct species of shark that lived approximately 28-1.5 million years ago, during the Cenozoic Era. It was the biggest predatory marine creature in the history of the planet, outweighing modern great white sharks and ancient reptiles.

A modern great white shark chomps down on its prey with about 1.8 tons of force while Megalodon chowed down with a force of between 10.8 and 18.2 tons according to a joint research team from Australia and the U. Enamel : This tooth has smooth enamel.

Smooth enamel is an important feature of Megalodon teeth. Root : This tooth has 2 rough spots on the root, but is still very nice. (See Pictures) A complete root separates a nice tooth from an exceptional tooth.

The Bourrelet : This tooth appears to have a full bourrelet. That is the thin triangular band of enamel between the blade and the root. Because the bourrelet is so thin, very few teeth have a full. Size and Weight : The approximate measure of this tooth is 2.687 (See pictures) The weight of this tooth is approximately 1.5 oz. The size of a Megalodon tooth is measured from the tip of the tooth to the corner of the root.

Restoration : This tooth is not altered, not polished. The most common types of altered teeth are repaired teeth and polished teeth. A broken root or peeled enamel can be added back to make the tooth look more natural. Repaired teeth are worth less than similar unrepaired teeth.

Color : Some people ask if you can determine the age of a tooth by the color. The sediment in which it was buried while fossilizing, not the age, determines the color. Thanks to Bill at Mega-teeth and About Dinosaurs.
